Cloudflare Workers alternatives

When Cloudflare Workers is not a good fit

Cloudflare Workers is a serverless platform from Cloudflare that runs JavaScript, TypeScript, Python and Rust functions on its global network. It has a free plan with 100,000 requests a day, and the Workers Paid plan starts at a $5 a month minimum per account. Workers run on V8 isolates, not containers, and have no cold starts.

It is a weaker choice for:

  • Long-running processes or workloads that need a full server: Workers are request-driven functions with CPU limits
  • Teams that want to run the same platform on their own servers: only the workerd runtime is open source, not the Cloudflare network
  • Code that depends on Node.js features outside the Workers runtime
