When AWS Amplify is not a good fit

AWS Amplify is AWS's platform for building, deploying and hosting full-stack web and mobile applications, including CI/CD, hosting and backend services. It's priced pay-as-you-go with a generous free tier for the first 12 months, covering build minutes, storage and data transfer separately.

It is a weaker choice for:

  • Teams wanting the simplest possible flat-rate hosting pricing rather than several separately metered components
  • Projects outside the AWS ecosystem that don't need integration with other AWS services
  • Very high-traffic sites where per-GB data transfer costs can add up compared to some flat-rate hosting platforms
