When Turso is not a good fit

Turso is a managed database platform built on libSQL, an open source fork of SQLite, that lets developers create many small, embeddable databases and replicate them close to users for low-latency reads. It's aimed at edge and serverless applications that want SQLite's simplicity with multi-region replication. The free plan includes 100 databases and 5 GB of storage, with paid plans starting under $5 a month.

It is a weaker choice for:

  • Applications that need complex multi-table joins and transactions at large scale the way a traditional Postgres or MySQL server handles them
  • Teams that want a single, large, centrally managed relational database rather than many small ones
  • Workloads with very high write volume, where SQLite's single-writer model per database can be a bottleneck
