When Sequelize is not a good fit

Sequelize is an open source object-relational mapper for Node.js and TypeScript. It supports Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite, SQL Server and Oracle. It is maintained by the Sequelize contributors, is free to use, and its v6 line is the stable release while v7 is labeled alpha.

It is a weaker choice for:

  • Projects that need a MongoDB data layer: Sequelize targets SQL databases
  • New projects that want the v7 line in production: the project site labels v7 as alpha
  • Teams that want a managed service with support: it is a community project funded by donations
