Drizzle ORM

Drizzle is an open source TypeScript ORM built by Drizzle Team, a Ukraine-based developer group, for Postgres, MySQL and SQLite (including SQLite-compatible databases like Turso). It favors writing queries that map closely to SQL over a heavy abstraction layer, and generates fully typed query results from your schema. In March 2026 PlanetScale hired the Drizzle core team, becoming the project's main backer while Drizzle continues as an independent open source project.

A good fit for

  • TypeScript projects that want full type safety without a heavy ORM abstraction
  • Teams that want queries to read close to SQL rather than a custom query language
  • Serverless and edge deployments that need a lightweight, dependency-free ORM
  • Projects using SQLite-compatible platforms like Turso alongside Postgres or MySQL

Not a good fit for

  • Teams that prefer a more batteries-included ORM with a built-in admin GUI and higher-level abstractions, such as Prisma
  • Developers who want a large, established plugin ecosystem built up over many years
  • Projects that need first-class support for databases outside Postgres, MySQL and SQLite

Drizzle ORM pricing

Drizzle the ORM is free and open source under the Apache-2.0 license. Drizzle Studio has a free local tool and paid tiers for hosted or embedded use, and OneDollarStats, a separate analytics product from the same team, starts at $1 a month.

Prices in USD, checked on 27 September 2026. Current prices on orm.drizzle.team.

CLI for generating and running schema migrations, and introspecting an existing database into a Drizzle schema.
Drizzle Studio
A database browser for viewing and editing data, available locally, as a browser extension or embedded in an app.
Relational queries API
A higher-level query API for fetching nested relations without hand-written joins.
Edge-runtime compatible

About Drizzle ORM

Drizzle is a TypeScript ORM that generates fully typed query builders and results from a schema defined in TypeScript, aiming to stay close to raw SQL rather than hiding it behind a heavy abstraction. It supports Postgres, MySQL and SQLite, including SQLite-compatible platforms like Turso and Cloudflare D1.

The project includes drizzle-kit for schema migrations and introspecting an existing database, and Drizzle Studio, a database browser available as a local tool, browser extension or embeddable component. It's built to run in serverless and edge environments as well as traditional Node.js servers.

Drizzle Team is a small, Ukraine-based group that funds development partly through consulting work and products like Drizzle Studio and the OneDollarStats analytics tool. In March 2026, PlanetScale hired the core Drizzle team, becoming its main financial backer while the ORM remains open source and independently released.

Is Drizzle free?

Yes, the Drizzle ORM is open source under the Apache-2.0 license and free to use. Related products like Drizzle Studio and OneDollarStats have separate, optional paid tiers.

What databases does Drizzle support?

PostgreSQL, MySQL and SQLite, including SQLite-compatible platforms such as Turso and Cloudflare D1.

Was Drizzle acquired?
