About Gemini CLI
Gemini CLI is a terminal-first agent that connects to Gemini models. It has built-in tools for Google Search grounding, file operations, shell commands and web fetching, supports MCP servers, and handles code, images and PDFs.
In an announcement posted on 19 May 2026, Google said it is unifying its agent-first development tools under the Antigravity platform. The new Antigravity CLI is built in Go and is proprietary, while the Gemini CLI repository remains public under Apache 2.0.
Per that announcement, Google will keep maintaining Gemini CLI with updates for enterprise customers, though development focus has moved to Antigravity.
