Taste Skill

Taste Skill is a free, MIT-licensed set of 14 Agent Skills that make a coding agent design websites instead of assembling the average landing page. The default skill picks an art direction, finds real pictures from open archives, draws what it cannot find and checks its own work in a real browser. The other skills cover redesigns, image-to-code, minimal and brutalist looks, and image generation for brand work.

Commands as given in the README on 14 October 2026.
What Taste Skill runs on your machine
- Hooks
- None found in the repo.
- Bundled scripts
- Yes. The default skill runs Node scripts (assets.mjs, draw.mjs, inspect.mjs, lint.mjs) and needs Node 22 or newer plus an installed Chrome, Edge or Chromium. The repo also has an install.sh for linking the skills.
- Network calls
- Yes. The README says the skill needs internet access to find pictures from open archives such as Wikimedia Commons, Openverse and the Met.
- API keys needed
- None. The README says the default skill needs no API keys.
- Tool permissions
- Drives a local browser to inspect the pages it builds.
These are facts read from the repo, not a security rating. Read the files before you install any skill.
What is inside Taste Skill
| Skill | What it makes the agent do |
|---|---|
| design-taste-frontend | The default skill. Sets an art direction, finds real pictures, draws what is missing and checks the page in a real browser. |
| redesign-existing-projects | Upgrades the look of a site that already exists. |
| image-to-code | Builds a page from a reference image. |
| high-end-visual-design | Pushes a page toward a more polished visual style. |
| minimalist-ui | Builds restrained, clean interfaces. |
| industrial-brutalist-ui | Builds raw, brutalist interfaces. |
| stitch-design-taste | Applies the same design rules to Stitch output. |
| full-output-enforcement | Keeps the agent from cutting a long build short. |
| imagegen-frontend-web | Image generation skill for web page visuals. |
| brandkit | Image generation skill for brand boards. |
Ten of the 14 skills are shown. The README lists one default skill, eight job-specific skills, three image-generation skills and two older versions.
A good fit for
- Front-end builders who are tired of generic gradient-and-card landing pages from an agent
- Redesigns of an existing site, since one skill is built for that job
- Projects that need real, credited photography instead of placeholder images
- Teams that want a browser-checked result, not a page the agent never looked at
Skip it if
- Quick edits, since a full build takes tens of minutes and a lot of tokens
- Machines without Node 22 and a Chromium-based browser
- Offline work, because finding pictures needs the internet
How Taste Skill works
The README says a full build takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes and a few hundred thousand tokens, because the agent finds photos, draws, builds and then reviews the page in a browser. The photographs are real and credited by the skill.
The same maker ships TasteCode, a free desktop app with a design agent built in. The README also carries sponsor links, which are separate from the skills.
