About Claude 3.5 Sonnet

Claude 3.5 Sonnet was the first model in Anthropic's Claude 3.5 family. At launch Anthropic said it ran at twice the speed of Claude 3 Opus, cost $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens, and accepted up to 200,000 tokens of context. It was free to use on Claude.ai and the Claude iOS app, and developers reached it through the Anthropic API, Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud Vertex AI.

On 22 October 2024 Anthropic released an upgraded version (claude-3-5-sonnet-20241022) at the same price. It raised the model's SWE-bench Verified score from 33.4% to 49.0% and added computer use in public beta, which let developers have Claude operate a computer by reading screenshots, moving a cursor, clicking and typing.

Anthropic deprecated both snapshots on 13 August 2025 and retired them on 28 October 2025. Code that still calls either model ID has to move to a current model such as Claude Sonnet 4.6 or Claude Sonnet 5.
