Terraform Skill
antonbabenko/terraform-skill
Terraform Skill is an Apache-2.0 agent skill by Anton Babenko for Terraform and OpenTofu. It helps an agent test code, structure modules, manage state, set up CI/CD and write production infrastructure code. AWS, Azure and GCP are all covered, with AWS as the default in examples. It installs on many agents, including Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Codex and Kiro.

How to install Terraform Skill
| Agent | Command | Copy |
|---|---|---|
| Any agent | | |
| Claude Code | Do not also add antonbabenko/terraform-skill as a marketplace, since both use the same marketplace name and clash. | |
| Gemini CLI | | |
| Codex | The README also describes a managed Codex plugin install through the antonbabenko/agent-plugins marketplace. | |
| Cursor | |
Commands as given in the README on 3 October 2026.
What Terraform Skill runs on your machine
- Hooks
- None found in the repo.
- Bundled scripts
- None that run in your agent. The JavaScript files in the repo are release tooling.
- Network calls
- None named for the skill itself. The Kiro Power install also registers an optional read-only HashiCorp terraform-mcp-server from mcp.json, and the README says the guidance works without it.
- API keys needed
- None named in the README.
These are facts read from the repo, not a security rating. Read the files before you install any skill.
What is inside Terraform Skill
| Skill or command | What it makes the agent do |
|---|---|
| terraform-skill | One skill covering testing, module development, state management, CI/CD and security for Terraform and OpenTofu. |
The README groups the skill into testing frameworks, module development, state management, CI/CD integration, security and compliance, and quick-reference cheat sheets.
A good fit for
- Infrastructure engineers who want an agent to follow Terraform and OpenTofu conventions
- Teams writing reusable modules that need tests and versioning guidance
- Platform teams standardizing infrastructure code across AWS, Azure and GCP
- People who use several agents, as the README gives install steps for a long list of them
Skip it if
- Other infrastructure tools such as Pulumi or CloudFormation, since the skill targets Terraform and OpenTofu
- Teams that want the agent to run plans and applies for them, because the skill gives guidance only
- Anyone who wants one install path, as the Claude Code route goes through a separate marketplace
How Terraform Skill works
The skill includes a decision matrix for native Terraform tests versus Terratest, testing workflows from static checks to end-to-end, remote backend guidance for S3, Azure, GCS and Terraform Cloud, and examples for GitHub Actions and GitLab CI. Its security section covers Trivy and Checkov integration and policy-as-code patterns.
The repo is also a Kiro Power. The README recommends an optional companion plugin, code-intelligence, from the same author's marketplace, and says terraform-skill works without it.

Questions about Terraform Skill
Does it support OpenTofu?
Yes. The README names Terraform 1.0 or later and OpenTofu 1.6 or later.
Which clouds does it cover?
AWS, Azure and GCP are all first-class. AWS is the default in examples, and you can ask for the Azure or GCP equivalent of any pattern.
Why does Claude Code install from a different marketplace?
The README says terraform-skill is listed in the antonbabenko/agent-plugins marketplace. Adding the skill repo as a marketplace as well would clash by name.
Is it free?
Yes. It is licensed under Apache-2.0.
Does it run any code?
No hooks or agent-side scripts were found. The repo's JavaScript is release tooling.
