What Obsidian Skills runs on your machine
- Hooks
- None found in the repo.
- Bundled scripts
- None in the repo. The skills instruct the agent to use the Obsidian CLI, Defuddle and Knap, which you install separately.
- Network calls
- The defuddle skill fetches web pages you point it at. The other skills are Markdown instructions.
- API keys needed
- None named in the README.
These are facts read from the repo, not a security rating. Read the files before you install any skill.
What is inside Obsidian Skills
| Skill | What it makes the agent do |
|---|---|
| obsidian-markdown | Creates and edits Obsidian Flavored Markdown with wikilinks, embeds, callouts and properties. |
| obsidian-bases | Creates and edits .base files with views, filters, formulas and summaries. |
| json-canvas | Creates and edits .canvas files with nodes, edges and groups. |
| obsidian-cli | Works with vaults through the Obsidian CLI, including plugin and theme development. |
| defuddle | Extracts clean Markdown from web pages with Defuddle, removing clutter to save tokens. |
| knap | Renders Markdown templates from JSON or CSV data with Knap, including batch file generation. |
A good fit for
- Obsidian users who let an agent create or tidy notes in their vault
- People building Bases or Canvas files who want valid output on the first try
- Anyone who clips web pages into notes and wants less clutter in the agent's context
- Plugin and theme developers who use the Obsidian CLI
Skip it if
- Notes kept in tools other than Obsidian, since the syntax rules are Obsidian specific
- Users who want an agent to organize a whole vault by itself, because these skills teach formats and tools, not a filing system
How Obsidian Skills works
The point of the pack is correct file syntax. Obsidian has its own Markdown flavor and file formats for Bases and Canvas, and an agent that does not know them writes plain Markdown that Obsidian renders badly. Each skill carries the format rules for one of those.
For Claude Code, the README suggests putting the repo contents in a .claude folder at the root of your vault so the skills sit next to your notes.
